Sustainability

A responsible catch

The ocean has sustained our business since 1957 — so protecting it is simply how we work.

Our approach

Looking after the source

We work to source responsibly, make full use of every catch, and keep waste, energy use and emissions to a minimum across our operations — from the coast to the container.

For a company built on the sea, sustainability isn't a side project. It's how a business rooted in the ocean stays healthy for generations to come.

Certified sustainable

MSC certified

West Norway AS is certified to the MSC standard — as is our parent company, Jangaard Export AS, and the other producers in the group.

Principle 01

Sustainable stocks

Fishing at levels that keep fish stocks healthy and productive, so they can replenish for the future.

Principle 02

Minimal impact

Managing fishing so the wider marine ecosystem — habitats and other species — is kept intact.

Principle 03

Effective management

Operating under responsible, well-run management that meets local and international rules.

Certification also means traceability: MSC-labelled fish can be followed from a certified, sustainable fishery all the way to the customer.

Openness

The Transparency Act

As a Norwegian company, West Norway AS is subject to the Transparency Act (åpenhetsloven). We carry out due diligence to safeguard fundamental human rights and decent working conditions — in our own operations and across our supply chain.
